Over 180 flights canceled from Jeju Island due to heavy rain and strong winds in South Korea

Sol. Heavy rain and strong winds battered South Korea, prompting officials at the international airport on the northern island of Jeju to cancel more than 180 flights to and from South Korea on Friday morning.

Yonhap news agency quoted airport officials as saying that 183 domestic flights had been canceled as of 8 a.m. local time. Officials are attempting to resume airport operations around 1 p.m.

The agency quoted weather officials as saying that warnings for strong winds were issued on Thursday. Subsequently, 243 flights to and from the island were cancelled.
