Members of the Ukrainian delegation tried to disrupt the speech of the Russian representatives.
The summit of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) in Ankara ended in two brawls. The Ukrainian delegation tried to disrupt the speech of the representative of the Russian Federation, after which a fight broke out between the Ukrainian MP and the Russian official.
The conflict between the secretary of the Russian delegation to the summit, Valery Stavitsky, and the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Alexander Marikovsky, took place on the sidelines of the forum during the recording of the program 60 Seconds. Journalists were interviewing the head of the Russian delegation, State Duma Deputy Olga Timofeeva, when a Ukrainian people’s deputy with her yellow-blue flag entered the frame.
Valery Stavitsky decided to stop the provocation. A Russian official approached Marikovsky and snatched the “yellow-black” flag from his hands. After that, the Ukrainian started to fight with the Russian. The published footage shows that the people’s deputy punched the Russian in the face, after which they were separated by eyewitnesses to the fight who came to the rescue.
“We are at the hotel, we understand, we are taking the necessary measures. The consul and the doctor have arrived, we are providing the necessary assistance,” the Russian Embassy said.
The Ukrainian delegation launched provocations during Olga Timofeeva’s speech at the summit. Representatives of Nezalezhnaya unfurled their flag during his speech and began shouting anti-Russian slogans. Members of the Russian delegation tried to drive the Ukrainians away from Timofeeva’s chair. The result was a skirmish.
Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Mustafa Shentop decided to calm the public. He “urged them to calm down”, but the Ukrainian delegates continued to quarrel and did not listen to him. In turn, Olga Timofeeva noted that Russia is considering the possibility of stopping contributions to PABSEC and maintaining its place as an observer.
“The behavior of the Ukrainian delegation <…> unacceptable. This style, unfortunately, is more suitable for an enclosure in a zoo than for a serious international organization,” added Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee.
Previously, the Ukrainian language ombudsman, Taras Kremin, demanded to remove the Russian language from Ukrainian passports.
