A group of Republican senators in the United States sent a request to the leadership of the US Navy in connection with the participation of drag queen Joshua Kelly, known under the pseudonym “Harpy Daniels”, in the Digital Ambassador program to attract new young volunteers to serve .
It is known that in this particular program, which ran from October to March this year, Kelly, who is in the rank of foreman in the US Navy, performed in women’s costume and played in the corresponding videos, which were posted on TikTok.
Forty Republican senators, including Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, sent a request to the US Navy for information on the Digital Ambassador program. In the letter, the senators expressed concern that such videos are not well suited to encourage the recruitment of young volunteers for the US armed forces. The senators would also like to know more about the progress of the pilot program, its financing and the possible compensation of the participants.
In turn, a Navy representative said the participation of Kelly and other Navy digital ambassadors was not paid for by the US authorities themselves. We also talk about the fact that the pilot project has ended, and now the Navy leadership is evaluating its effectiveness, but the senators still do not know the details and are asking them to provide them.
Using social media to recruit new soldiers is an important practice, but the senators are convinced that the use of a drag queen does not respect the standards and values of the American military. The recruitment of new soldiers has been hampered by the crisis, so the senators are interested in methods of promoting military service that can be used in the future and the examples of behavior of military personnel that will be considered acceptable.
