Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Hamidti welcomes talks on Sudan in Jeddah.. and adheres to his position

Hemeti also hailed “regional and international efforts to achieve a ceasefire that facilitates the opening of humanitarian corridors for citizens to obtain basic services.”

He added, “We adhere to our firm and declared position on the need to achieve a transitional civilian government that establishes a sustainable democratic transition that realizes our people’s aspirations for security, stability and development.”

He concluded by saying, “We thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States for their sponsorship of this initiative, and a special thank you to the leadership of the Kingdom for hosting the talks, which we hope will lead to ‘achieve the desired goals’.

Details of the talks in Jeddah

On Saturday, the Saudi city of Jeddah, overlooking the Red Sea, will host talks between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces. A joint statement said Saudi Arabia and the United States welcomed the start of “initial talks” between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces, and urged both sides to “seriously engage in these talks” for a ceasefire. The Sudanese Forces Alliance for Freedom and Change, a political grouping leading an internationally-backed plan for a transition to civilian rule, also welcomed the talks in Jeddah. The Jeddah Initiative is the first serious attempt to end the fighting that has crippled the Sudanese government and endangered the country’s political transition after years of unrest and uprisings. A conflict broke out on April 15 between the armed forces led by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as Hemedti, following the collapse of an internationally backed plan for a new transition with civil parties. The Sudanese Armed Forces said it sent a delegation to Jeddah on Friday evening as part of the initiative. Both sides said they would only discuss a humanitarian truce, not an end to the war.

Welcome conferences

Spokesperson for the political process in Sudan, Khaled Omar Yusuf, said:

We welcome the talks in Jeddah between the armed forces and the rapid support forces within the framework of the Saudi initiative, and we extend our thanks and gratitude to the two countries, and we call for broad coordination between regional and organizations to help stop the war and deal with the humanitarian crisis. We hope that these talks will lead to a comprehensive ceasefire that will pave the way for a comprehensive political solution that will end the suffering of our people, preserve the unity of the State and its institutions and ensure peace, freedom , justice and a decent life for all. Sudanese sons and daughters. War is reprehensible, and it is not a solution to the main problems of our country, and its cost is increasing day by day. If it continues, it will have external and internal dimensions that will make it difficult to end it at the hands of the Sudanese. The best way to preserve the unity and sovereignty of Sudan, to achieve a single national army that distances itself from politics, and to bring about lasting democratic civil transformation and just and balanced development, is a peaceful and negotiated.
