Klopp reveals Liverpool’s strategy in the transfer market

Klopp has spoken of Liverpool needing to rebuild the squad, but US owner John Henry, who owns the club, said in March that Liverpool would not fall into the trap of spending more money than they could afford on their quest for success.

And British reports said last month that Liverpool had halted their attempts to sign England international Jude Billingham, whom Klopp placed as a top priority for inclusion in the new season.

(The Athletic) say Borussia Dortmund are asking for £130million to sell the 19-year-old, while other reports indicate he is close to a move to Real Madrid.

In response to a question about how Liverpool would react if the seller asked for exorbitant prices, Klopp said: “We will not include the player in this case.”

He added: “We will sign players and I’m sure we’ll sign the players we want and they can help us. I’m absolutely sure of that.”

And the German coach continued: “Let me clarify the matter and say: I determine the required position and do not put a candidate player.. I can put a player as first choice, but if his club does not want to sell him or if another party pays the amount, we can’t include it, but usually we get the players we want.”

Last year, Liverpool attempted to sign French midfielder Aurelien Chouamini, before moving to Real Madrid in a big deal.
