Operation Trinetra: Security forces gunned down a terrorist in Rajouri

Jammu. A terrorist was killed and another feared injured in an encounter with security forces in Rajouri district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

An army spokesman said that in a joint operation by the Indian Army in coordination with the police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Kandi forest of Rajouri sector from about 7 am today, the terrorists were cordoned off and terrorists eliminated. He said that one terrorist was killed in the encounter and another is feared to be injured.

According to sources, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to visit the encounter site. The encounter between the security forces and the terrorists trapped there resumed late last night. An army spokesman said that the commander of the army’s northern command, Lt. Gen. Upendra Dbivedi, Reviewed the ongoing operations in Kandi. He said the ground commanders briefed him on all aspects of the operation.

Earlier, he said that after midnight the firing started again with the terrorists at 1.15 am. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Commander along with senior officers will pay homage to the brave soldiers at a wreath laying ceremony here at Air Force Station, Jammu. Five soldiers, including a jawan from Akhnoor in Jammu, were killed and an officer of the rank of Major was injured in the encounter on Friday.
