Operation Trinetra: Sinha paid tribute to the martyrs.

Jammu. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday morning paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the ongoing operation against terrorists in Rajouri’s Kandi forest.

Shri Sinha said, “The entire country stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the brave martyrs. A grateful nation will always be indebted to their unparalleled valor.” The wreath-laying ceremony at Air Force Station Jammu was also attended by senior army and police officers. Others are feared injured.

An army spokesman said that the joint operation by the Indian Army in coordination with the police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Kandi forest of Rajouri sector from around 7 am today laid siege and killed the terrorists. He said that one terrorist was killed in the encounter and another is feared to be injured.

According to sources, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh may visit the encounter site. The encounter between the security forces and the trapped terrorists resumed late in the night. An army spokesman said that the Army’s Northern Command Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dbivedi reviewed the ongoing operation in Kandi. He said that the ground commanders briefed him on all aspects of the operation.

Earlier, he said that after midnight, the firing started again with the terrorists at 1.15 am. In the encounter on Friday, five soldiers, including a jawan from Akhnoor in Jammu, were martyred and an officer of the rank of Major was injured. During this, the security forces recovered an AK-56 rifle, four magazines of AK-56, 56 rounds of AK, a 9 mm pistol with magazine, three grenades and a pouch of ammunition.

An army official said that the identity of the slain terrorist was being ascertained. The operation against the terrorists is still going on in the jungles of Kandi.
