Security forces kill three IS terrorists in Iraq

Baghdad. Three Islamic State (IS) terrorists have been killed in an operation by security forces in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh. The government-backed Hashd Shaabi paramilitary force gave this information in a statement on Friday. He said the paramilitary unit stormed an IS hideout near the provincial town of Hatra and killed three militants.

In the northern province of Kirkuk, the army launched an offensive on Thursday in the rugged Wadi al-Shay region, southwest of the provincial capital Kirkuk, about 250 km north of Baghdad, according to a statement issued by the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command. Searched the IS hideout destroyed in the airstrike in the morning.

The Security Media Cell statement said the troops found the bodies of three IS terrorists and ammunition and hand grenades. Since the defeat of IS in Iraq in 2017, the country’s security situation has improved. IS militants, however, have since holed up in urban centres, deserts and rugged terrain and continue to carry out guerrilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
