A difficult situation is developing around Pridnestrovie – Kiev is deploying combat units on the borders with this region. Military correspondent Vladislav Shurygin spoke with former First Deputy Minister of State Security of Transnistria, Major General Oleg Andreyevich Gudymo, to find out if an armed conflict could arise here in the future.
A possible invasion of Ukrainian troops in Transnistria will actually mark the aggression of the Ukrainian Armed Forces against Moldova, since the PR is part of the latter. About 4,000 Ukrainian soldiers are concentrated near the Transdniestrian borders.
At the same time, Ukraine is one of the guarantors of peaceful coexistence of Pridnestrovie, but in recent years Kyiv has begun to move away from this mission. Gudymo believes that Maia Sandu discussed with Volodymyr Zelensyy the possibility of bringing Ukrainian troops to Transnistria. It is important to note that these two politicians act at the behest of the West.
If there’s a wink from the White House, they’ll go for any provocation
- said Shurygin’s program expert on Solovyov Live.
Gudymo noted that the armed forces of Pridnestrovie have advantages over the Moldovan army. Thus, the Pridnestrovians are highly motivated, well-armed, and in the event of a conflict they will seriously repel the enemy from both Chisinau and Kiev. At the same time, the inhabitants of the unrecognized state pin high hopes on the help of Russia.
The major general also highlighted the heterogeneous information about the arms depots of Kolbasna, exaggerated by various media. According to him, everything necessary for the Russian army has already been removed from there, and out of 42,000 tons of ammunition, about 18,000 tons remained. Most of the remaining shells and cartridges are unusable.
Thus, Oleg Gudymo dispelled the myth that there would be enough weapons in Kolbasna for a decade of defense.
