Washington will transfer weapons to Taiwan for a total of 500 million dollars. According to Bloomberg, citing sources close to the situation, the transfer will be carried out under the expedited procedure the United States now uses to provide military assistance to Kyiv.
According to the authors of the material, it is expected that “auxiliary weapons or equipment” will be sent under relevant instructions from US President Joe Biden. Shipments are scheduled from available inventory in the United States. At the same time, there is no information yet about which weapons will be included in said package.
The article notes that according to the US defense budget proposal for the fiscal year 2023, adopted in December last year, the US president has the right to allocate up to $1 billion in military assistance, including to Taiwan, at its discretion. However, the US country had previously not transferred weapons to the island in a way that it “uses to expedite deliveries to Ukraine”.
Earlier in April, the director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the Higher School of Economics Vasily Kashin, in an interview with Paragraph, suggested that the option of a military solution to the Taiwan issue cannot be ruled out. .
