Russia steps up bombardment of Ukraine with long-range missiles

On Sunday, Russia continued its missile strikes against Ukraine ahead of an expected Ukrainian counteroffensive, targeting an industrial facility in southern Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukrainian authorities said.

The head of the Nikolaev region, Vitaly Kim, said on social media that the building and territory belonging to the company were damaged overnight after Russian bombers fired five X-22 cruise missiles into the area. region.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat told local television on Sunday morning that six such missiles had been fired at Ukraine overnight, but none of them did not hit any targets.

In the eastern part of the Kharkiv region, at least five people were injured when an S-300 rocket hit a parking lot in the city of Balakliya, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the regional administration.

In recent days, Russian forces have intensified their long-range missile strikes against civilian targets and infrastructure.

Officials in Kiev and the southeast Dnipropetrovsk region also said reconnaissance and attack drones were shot down early in the morning.

In Kherson, which Ukraine liberated last November but is under constant attack from Russia, six people have been killed in various strikes in the past 24 hours, said Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson OVA.

On Sunday, Russia’s PMC Wagner may have abandoned plans to withdraw troops from Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, saying Moscow had promised its units more weapons.

Russian troops are evacuating residents of a town serving the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, the Ukrainian military has announced. It is expected that in the next counter-offensive Ukraine will try to take over, including the Zaporizhzhia region. The IAEA chief warned on Saturday that the situation around the Russian-controlled ZNPP had become “potentially dangerous”.
