“The real Queen of Britain will always be Diana,” wrote one user, posting several photos of the late Princess of Wales. “The queen we never had. What a sad, sad story. The queen of all our hearts,” said another. Another user added: “Princess Diana is the only true queen today and every day.”
In a 1995 interview, when asked if she believed she would ever become queen, Diana replied: “No, I don’t, no. I would like to be the queen of people’s hearts, in people’s hearts. But I don’t think of myself as the queen of this country.” Her friend and former Vanity Fair editor, Tina Brown, wrote last year: “Diana would hate the idea of the queen Camilla, there’s no doubt about it.”
“Were it not for the cruel twist of fate, Queen Diana would have stood on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on Saturday with Queen Mary’s crown twinkling on her head. She would have been head over heels in love with three beautiful grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who played such a big role in their grandfather’s coronation, – writes the New York Post – Instead, thousands of Britons, who gathered at the palace and filled the shopping center in London, watched Charles III and his second wife Camilla – the woman he cheated on Diana with and who was once called Britain’s most hated woman.”
The couple are infamous for having an affair over and over again for decades while married to other people. The current Queen married Andrew Parker Bowles in 1973 and Charles married the late Princess Diana in 1981. Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. She was just 36.
For decades, Brits and Diana fans everywhere have not forgiven Charles and Camilla’s relationship. A new Sky News/Ipsos poll released this week showed King Charles III is the fourth most popular member of the royal family behind his son Prince William, sister Princess Anne and sister-in-law Princess Kate. Camilla is listed as number seven.
