A total of 11,67,700 tourists visited Tibet during the recently concluded five-day May Day holiday. This number is more than 73.25 percent as compared to the same period last year, which is an increase of 137.09 percent from the same period of year 2019. During this period, tourism revenue of 848 million yuan was generated, an increase of 61.52 percent over the May Day holiday in 2022, and an increase of 42.28 percent over the same time in 2019. The tourism department of Tibet Autonomous Region has recently made these figures public.
According to statistics, the number of visitors to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, stood at 27,701 during the five-day holiday from April 29 to May 3 this year. And 16,171 tourists visited Passongtso Lake in Nying-chi city. The average occupancy rate of one-star hotels reached 74 percent during the May Day holiday in Tibet.
According to the Tourism Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region, ahead of these holidays, the department launched 6 high-quality tourist routes for urban residents to choose from. A village called Ch’unpaiwi, subordinate to Lhasa, welcomed 800 urban citizens. During this, tourism income of 70 thousand yuan was received.
According to another report, the tourism market of Lhasa city is recovering rapidly. During the May Day holiday this year, a total of 657,900 domestic and foreign tourists visited Lhasa. This number is 75.34 percent more than the same time in the year 2022. The total tourism revenue was 606 million yuan, an increase of 70.23 percent over the same period in 2022.
