Geneva: More than 4.5 million women and infants die each year around the world during pregnancy, childbirth, or within a few weeks of birth. The United Nations gave this information citing a report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday. The United Nations reported that each year more than 4.5 million women and infants die during pregnancy, childbirth or the first week after birth, which is equivalent to one death every seven seconds. Most of these deaths occur due to lack of timely medical attention and proper care. The United Nations said that the death rate of pregnant women, mothers and infants has not decreased in the last eight years because of the cut in investment in their health care.
