The celebration began at ten o’clock Moscow time, with the ringing of Kremlin bells, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Units of various types of Russian forces, which took part in the parade, gathered in Red Square, in addition to Russian vehicles and armored vehicles and the Russian Air Force.
More than ten thousand people and 125 pieces of military equipment participated in the parade.
“Tiger” and “Typhoon-O” armored personnel carriers, “S-400” air defense missile systems, “BTR-82A” armored personnel carriers, “tactical operational missiles” passed through Red Square. Iskander-M” and Mobile Sol “Yaris” missile systems, as well as new “Boomerang” armored personnel carriers.
The Russian Air Force did not participate in the parade this year.
The soldiers of the Honor Guard Battalion entered Red Square carrying the flag of the Russian Federation and the banner of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, then the participants observed a minute of mourning silence for the souls martyrs.
Victory Day celebrations will end with a fireworks display at 10:00 p.m.
Putin said on this occasion that his country is facing a real war and that the West wants to destroy Russia, adding that “Western elites show hostility and hatred towards Russia”.
Russia is marking the anniversary this year, amid tight security measures following a series of drone attacks, including an attack on the Kremlin itself that Moscow blames on Ukraine.
Victory Day is one of the most important holidays in Russia, and Russians commemorate the great sacrifices made by the Soviet Union during the so-called Great Patriotic War between 1941 and 1945, which cost life to approximately 27 million citizens.
Putin often compares the Ukrainian War to the challenge the Soviet Union faced after Hitler’s Nazi invasion in 1941. Putin describes the war as a battle against Nazi-inspired nationalists.
