The announcement is for 150 firm orders with an option to order 150 of the new fuel-efficient aircraft, and represents “the largest order from an Irish company for US-made products”, according to a statement from Ryanair.
It is assumed that the planes will be delivered between 2027 and 2033, when airlines usually negotiate deep price discounts, especially for large orders.
The Dublin-based airline said the deal would be subject to shareholder approval at its annual general meeting in September, given the size of the deal.
Ryanair added that the new 228-seat aircraft, in addition to a major recruitment campaign, will help increase passenger numbers.
The company aims to increase annual passenger numbers by 80% to 300 million passengers by 2034, compared to 2023.
It intends to employ more than 10,000 crews, engineers and pilots to achieve its goal.
“RainAir is delighted to sign this record aircraft order,” said Michael O’Leary, CEO of the airline.
“As well as achieving significant revenue and traffic growth across Europe, we expect these new larger, more efficient and more environmentally friendly aircraft to result in additional cost savings, which will translate into lower air fares for passengers,” he added.
