The Israeli occupation is doomed to disappear

SPA – Cairo:

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, saluted the struggling Palestinian people for their steadfastness and determination to continue their struggle to end 75 years of tragedy and continuous suffering. Aboul Gheit said – in his speech during the event commemorating the Nakba and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, which was launched yesterday at the headquarters of the Arab League, that the occupation may control the land, but it will never be able to obliterate the memory and suppress the historical truth. The memory of the Nakba and the historical injustice it carried will remain alive through generations and the Israeli occupation. His fate, like others throughout history, is to perish.

Aboul Gheit stressed in his speech delivered on his behalf by the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestinian Sector in the Arab League, Ambassador Saeed Abu Ali, that the crimes that have been committed and are still being committed do not fall under the statute of limitations no matter how long it takes, and international justice mechanisms must be activated in prosecuting the Israeli officials for their crimes and bringing them to account.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League stressed that the international community, its bodies and organizations, foremost among them the Security Council, should assume its full responsibilities in following up and implementing its decisions, doing justice to the Palestinian people, ending the Israeli occupation, and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

It is noteworthy that the event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Nakba includes two axes. The first is related to the Nakba and its repercussions, forced displacement, the right of return, UNRWA and its role in serving the Palestinian refugee community. The second axis is related to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Day and includes the reality of prisoners in light of the Israeli escalation, administrative detention, house arrest for children, medical neglect and detention. The corpses and live testimonies of the prisoners, in addition to holding a documentary photo exhibition on the Nakba.
