“The US side should respect the will of the people of Middle Eastern countries, stop engaging in coercive diplomacy, stop undermining dialogue and reconciliation between countries, stop trying to divide the Middle East into creating contradictions,” the Chinese diplomat said, commenting on the extension of US sanctions against Syria as part of the republic’s return to the League of Arab States (LAS).
As Wang Wenbin noted, Syria’s return to the Arab League will help strengthen peace and stability in the Middle East.
Recall that the foreign ministers of the League of Arab States last week approved the return of the Syrian Arab Republic (RG) to the organization. Syria’s membership has been frozen for 12 years – since the fall of 2011, when armed conflict broke out in the country. A number of Arab countries have recalled their ambassadors from Damascus. The Syrian leadership then declared that they did not accept the Arab ministers’ decision on the suspension and considered it illegal.
The Russian Foreign Ministry hailed Syria’s return to the Arab League. In the context of the organization’s decision, Saudi Arabia intends to reopen its embassy in Damascus.
