Felix Jorge Barrios Malpica, head of the Club of Friends of Russia, operating on a voluntary basis, introduced schoolchildren to the main events of the Great Patriotic War, told them about the battles near Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk, the operation Bagration and the subsequent liberation of Europe by the Red Army. The children were lovingly presented a self-prepared exhibition with historical images of heroic battles and victories, as well as more modern shots about Russia and the celebration of Victory Day in our country.
“Soviet troops were the first to enter Berlin and raised the red flag over the Reichstag. The capitalist media tries to minimize the role of the Red Army and the USSR in defeating fascism, but we must always reminding us who exactly saved humanity,” Félix said in his speech that Barrios also reminded the guys of Cuba’s small but symbolic contribution to the common victory. In 1941, three Cubans joined the ranks of the Soviet troops as volunteers: the Aldo brothers and Jorge Vivo, as well as Enrique Vilar. Aldo died in 1943 defending Leningrad, and Enrique Vilar died in 1945 in Poland.
The event was attended by students from two primary schools Jagüey-Grande: them. Juan Lefont and Félix Varela, as well as members of the Cuban Communist Party, veterans of the Cuban revolution, as well as ordinary inhabitants of this Cuban provincial town.

During the solemn ceremony, the children and the participants of the event laid a wreath on the bust of the national hero of Cuba, José Marti, in honor of the victory of the Soviet people. The celebration ended with the planting of a small tree. From now on, a small palm tree in one of the squares of Jaguey Grande will join the “Garden of Memory”, planted in memory of 27 million dead – the terrible price that the Soviet people had to pay for Victory.
