Clashes have erupted between the Hausa and Nuba tribes in Sudan for reasons similar to those that sparked tribal clashes in the Blue Nile region last June.

And the takeover in October between the Hausa and other tribes in the region resulted in the deaths of between 200 and 400 people, during which dozens of villages were burnt down.

Although local authorities have declared a state of emergency in Kosti town and other parts of White Nile state, eyewitnesses told Sky News Arabia that great tension prevails in the area. due to ancient tribal conflicts that have been renewed due to disputes over land ownership.

Eyewitnesses pointed out that widespread burning had taken place in large residential, agricultural and commercial areas.

The Blue Nile and White Nile regions are a center of gravity for the Hausa tribe, who settled in Sudan hundreds of years ago, but their origins can be traced back to Nigeria, located in West Africa.

Over the past few months; The tribal conflict in Sudan has had serious repercussions and has spread to other parts of the east and center of the country, raising fears of a wider tribal war.

Due to the clashes, thousands of families have lost their shelter and economic activity, as most of the region’s population depends on agriculture and grazing.

There have been reports of an acute food crisis in conflict areas, with expectations of a significant deterioration in the food security situation, in light of fears of the failure of the summer season in the region. , which is considered one of the most important agricultural areas. in Sudan.

Observers and activists in the field of volunteerism warn that recent events will lead to further setbacks in the region, noting that efforts to achieve peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the region are being met with the state of injustice resulting from the occurrence of a large number of victims.

Hausa tribesmen across Sudan are protesting what they see as discrimination against them due to tribal custom, which prohibits them from owning land in certain areas of Sudan.

The new tribal clashes add a new burden to the Sudanese, who live in complex security conditions due to ongoing fighting in Khartoum, which has claimed nearly 500 lives over the past three weeks.
