Is Putin preparing for an elite ‘coup’, expert says

The danger of growing socio-economic problems in Russia could prompt President Vladimir Putin to revamp the elite as soon as possible.

This was said by economist Mikhail Khazin, according to the DEITA.RU news agency with reference to the “Moscow speaks” radio station.

According to him, the Russian leader is well aware that if the representatives of the liberal wing of the elite remain in office, there will be no economic growth in Russia. Moreover, under such conditions, the threat of a new crisis will always remain.

In order to achieve a sustainable pace of development, as Khazin explained, it is necessary to carry out a real “coup” of the elites in Russia: people with the same consciousness and the same approach to their work must give in room for specialists with patriotic thoughts.

New people in key positions will have to start correcting the long-standing mistakes of their predecessors, which did not allow the state to develop. In particular, officials should stop trying to avoid liability.
