ADNOC and Baker Hughes sign hydrogen cooperation agreement

Under this agreement, ADNOC will cooperate with Baker Hughes as a strategic partner to study, test and deploy innovative solutions from Baker Hughes’ portfolio of hydrogen generation technologies, including emission reduction technologies in the new phase of growth. in which Baker Hughes has invested in the production of hydrogen. Graphene and methane pyrolysis and new generation electrolysis fields.

This agreement follows the strategic partnership agreement signed between the two companies in November 2022.

The agreement was signed today at the “UAE Climate Technology Forum” being held in Abu Dhabi, which sees the participation of more than a thousand policymakers, innovators and global industry leaders with the aim of advancing technological solutions to reduce emissions.

According to ADNOC’s statement, the partnership agreement is based on $15 billion in investments allocated by ADNOC to develop a set of projects aimed at reducing emissions across the value chain of its diversified operations. here 2030.

Under the agreement, ADNOC will leverage Baker Hughes’ extensive hydrogen experience and broad technology portfolio to test and develop low-cost, large-scale green hydrogen and graphene production solutions, thereby helping to reduce emissions from operations. The collaboration will include the exploration of three new technologies in which Baker Hughes has invested:

1- Experiment with the next generation of electrolyser technologies from “Nemesis” to explore the possibility of installing and operating an electrolyser at the “ADNOC Research and Innovation Center” in Abu Dhabi, to take advantage of its capabilities growing in the field of technological development.

2- A field test of Levidian’s methane plasma technology to capture carbon as high quality graphene and hydrogen at ADNOC Gas facilities. The resulting graphene will be tested for industrial use cases by researchers at Khalifa University.

3- Test the use of Icona Power’s methane pyrolysis technology to produce low-emission hydrogen.
