Anxiety and tension strike children… and international associations warn

According to the report, 1 in 3 children between the ages of 9 and 13 worry at least once a week.

The most common causes of anxiety are school (64%), friendships (41%) or family (33%).

31% of children worry about how they look, 25% worry about being bullied, and 20% worry about insecurity or violence in the world.

Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed declines in many aspects of children’s mental health — a trend that began before the COVID-19 pandemic but worsened during this time.

The survey revealed that more than half of children do not believe that adults understand their concerns.

Mental health experts say depression and mental health issues can persist into adulthood. 75% of serious mental illnesses in adults begin before the age of fourteen.

So, if these problems are not solved at an early age, the problem can get worse and lead to a whole generation suffering from psychological challenges that affect various aspects of their lives.

Life skills coach and emotional therapist, Nancy Ismail, says:

  • Tension is worrying if it lasts a long time in the child, such as withdrawal from social life and withdrawal from home, without wanting to carry out activities, because these are indicators that should serve as alarm bells.
  • When these signs appear on the child, it is a question of understanding the reasons for this transformation of personality.
  • What is happening on social media platforms has caused terrible pressure on children, until one of them is worried about her appearance, and if she is acceptable or not.
  • Sometimes a child can brag about the number of followers he has on social platforms, and others feel jealous and even inferior.
  • The personality of an adult person is determined when he is still in the childhood stage, and before the age of fourteen in particular, and this question requires attention to the high level of anxiety and tension in young people, because they are the men and women of tomorrow.
