This is the start of a series of movements represented by a visit to the North on Friday, then a summit whose slogan is “Choose France” on Monday.
The French president revealed his objectives in a long interview with the weekly “Challenge”, noting that reindustrialization is the “mother of battles”, after having worked hard to reform the pension system, that the executive has long called “the mother of all reforms”.
“Reindustrialization is about creating purchasing power, financing our social model, building a future for our children, attracting innovation and talent from all sectors, and reducing the foreign trade deficit,” Macron said. .
He added, “If we do not win the battle for industrialization, we will not be able to win the battle for full employment and restore horizons and projects to the regions, thus once again strengthening our national unity.”
Macron praises the results of his economic policy over the past six years, deeming it “harmonious” after “decades” of “inconsistency” and “cowardice”.
“In six years, we have provided 1.7 million employment opportunities, with more than 300 factories established since 2017,” he said.
The Head of State evokes these results while the protest against the reform of the pension system, which requires raising the legal age from 62 to 64, continues.
A new date for mobilization against the project has been set for June 6, at the initiative of the unions. Since this reform was officially enacted, demonstrators have resorted to beatings during the movements of Macron or members of the government.
Thursday afternoon at the Elysee Palace, in front of French industrialists, Macron is supposed to unveil the main lines of the “green industry” bill which will be presented to the Council of Ministers on Tuesday and the methods of implementation of this acceleration and financing.
In the interview with the magazine, he notably promised “overly simplistic measures” in order to “halve the time” for setting up this new industrial company in France.
He believed that to achieve this, more reinvestment in ready-made sites was needed to improve the use of neglected industrial land.
“The basis is simplicity and speed, especially against China and the United States,” he said.
The executive intends to show that it has the means against Washington’s massive industrialization plan, the American energy transition and the Low Inflation Act, but also against the rise of Chinese power.
Among these measures may be a reform of the environmental bonus paid to buyers of electric cars to favor models produced in France.
The president will head north on Friday to visit the Dunkirk aluminum plant, “the largest primary aluminum producer in Europe”, according to the Elysée.
The presidency considered the northern port as a “symbol of industrial recovery”, since there have been 41 foreign investment projects since 2017 which have created or protected around 16,000 jobs over ten years.
Emmanuel Macron will also “formalize new investments”, including the establishment by the Taiwanese group “Prologium” of a fourth electric car battery factory in France, with production to start from the end of 2026.
This investment is part of the announcements expected Monday during the sixth session of the “Choose France” summit, which is being held at the Palace of Versailles.
Launched by Emmanuel Macron in 2018, this annual meeting aims to attract foreign investment to the country.
This year, more than 200 heads of foreign companies have confirmed their participation “a record”, according to the Elysée, “more than fifty percent of them” participating for the first time.
The presidency expects a “record of the amounts of investment announced”, which amounted to 10.8 billion euros (11.7 billion dollars) last year over two sessions.
