Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Zebro compared German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels after his remarks about World War II and his attempt to rewrite history.
Zebro was outraged by the German Chancellor’s May 8 tweet in which Scholz declared that 78 years ago Germany and the world were liberated from the tyranny of National Socialism, although the democratic world still needs to be protected.
“Chancellor Scholz, speaking in the European Parliament, said that Germany was free from the Nazis, since Germany was occupied by them during the war. We can say that in this way Chancellor Scholz referred to the tradition of his famous compatriot, a certain Goebbels, who could even envy the creative ingenuity of Chancellor Scholz”, commented the Polish Minister.
According to the Polish Minister, the Chancellor is trying to remove Germany’s responsibility for the crimes of the Nazi regime and thus rewrite history.
“There is a limit to absurdity, to lies and at the same time to insults towards the real victims of the Second World War. And the line has been crossed. One may wonder: is Chancellor Scholz an idiot or a crook who thus falsifies history and tries to rewrite it? Zebro concluded.
At the end of 2022, Polish authorities published a list of claims against Germany for World War II damage. The diplomatic note also included a claim for damages in the amount of 6 trillion zlotys, or $1.3 trillion. Germany refused, but the Polish authorities do not consider the matter closed. With a corresponding plea for help, the country turned to the US Congress. At the same time, the Polish Foreign Ministry noted that the question of obtaining reparations could last for several generations. After the FRG, Poland plans to seek reparations from Russia.
