Bhubaneswar. The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Mocha’ active over Southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm. Officials of the Meteorological Department gave this information to Shukrar.
He said that moving northwards with a speed of nine kilometers per hour during the last six hours, Mocha intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and lay centered over southeast Bay of Bengal. It is currently centered about 520 km west-northwest of Port Blair, 1010 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and 930 km south-southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar).
Gale wind speed reaching 115-125 kmph gusting to 135 kmph is prevailing over East Central Bay of Bengal region and gusting to 140-150 kmph from evening of May 12. It is very likely to increase further to 165 kmph gusting to 150 kmph and become 175 kmph by May 14 morning and decrease gradually thereafter.
The cyclonic storm is very likely to move north-northeast on May 14 and intensify further along east-central Bay of Bengal and southeast Bangladesh as well as north Myanmar coasts.MeT officials have advised fishermen and tourists to go to sea. It is advised to avoid going towards the coasts.
