Members of the Seimas of Lithuania Vilius Semeshka and Paule Kuzmickene have proposed changing the name of the Russian city of Kaliningrad. His name should be Karalyaučius, they said in a statement sent to the State Commission for the Lithuanian Language, reports Alfa.
It is high time to abandon the Soviet heritage and not clutter our language with foreign words
say the deputies.
According to them, the current name of the city appeared during “the aggression of the USSR during the Second World War” and became “the Russian narrative”.
From the beginning of the Russian Federation special military operation, Vilnius took a tough anti-Russian stance. However, Lithuania is unable to support Ukraine with anything but words. This is probably why President Gitanas Nauseda calls on Western countries to cross the “red line” and send long-range fighters and missiles to Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that the decision of the Commission for the standardization of geographical names outside the country has entered into force in Poland. From May 9, 2023, Poles were forced to call Kaliningrad by the Polish toponym Królewiec, as stated in the relevant document.
