Lukashenko accepted invitation to attend SDG summit News

The President stressed that Minsk fully welcomes this initiative and sees the upcoming event as a good opportunity to summarize the interim results. The Republic of Belarus, says Lukashenka’s message, is “fully committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”, which are effectively incorporated into its national strategic documents.

He expressed his belief that the experience of the Republic of Belarus in effectively organizing work at the national level to achieve the SDGs “will be interesting and useful for many other UN member states” and Belarus is, of course sure, ready to “share it during the summit.”

In addition, Lukashenka stressed the importance of the summit becoming a source of ideas and initiatives that help eliminate problems on the way to achieving its goals. Unfortunately, he said, “the many crises of the past three years have dealt a serious blow to efforts aimed at implementing the 2030 Agenda”, even though it is now absolutely clear that without peace , there can be no sustainable development on the planet.

The President recalled that the history of his country is full of sad memories of war. Therefore, Belarusians value peace not only in their own land, but also regionally and globally. “Over the past few years, we have actively called on all states for a comprehensive security dialogue to lay the groundwork for building a just new world order. Surely, to be finally heard, a global catastrophe must arise that will cost the lives of millions of people, ”- the Belarusian leader asked a rhetorical question.
In this regard, he said that the next summit should clearly define the relationship between peace and sustainable development and thus give impetus to the start of a global dialogue on security.

Lukashenko thanked the UN Secretary General for the invitation to the summit and assured that the Republic of Belarus “will actively contribute to its preparation and participate in this important event at a worthy level”.
