Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Putin signed a decree on a gradual transition to a new system of higher education

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the implementation of a pilot project to change the higher education system. The project provides for the establishment of basic higher education (four to six years) and specialized higher education (one to three years).

According to the decree, the pilot project will be implemented over the next two academic years at six Russian universities: MAI, MISIS, Moscow State Pedagogical University, St. Baltic Federal University and Tomsk State University.

On May 24, 2022, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov announced that Russia is withdrawing from the Bologna system. The higher education system of Bologna, as well as the project proposed in the presidential decree, provides for two-level training in universities – four years of bachelor’s degree and two years of master’s degree.

Earlier, it was learned that the Ministry of Education was discussing with the Ministry of Education and Science the transition to a new education system.
