Tensions have been exacerbated for months between Beijing and Washington, while the European Union calls for firmness and the maintenance of dialogue with Beijing.

On the economic level, the Covid-19 epidemic has highlighted in particular the vulnerability of supply chains in Western countries vis-à-vis China, both for consumer products and for the components necessary for proper functioning. industry of the G7 countries.

According to this adviser to Olaf Scholz’s government, the summit should not adopt a special declaration on China. However, the issue should be given a prominent place in the declaration on “economic resilience and security”.

Five declarations are planned during this summit, which includes the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Japan and Italy.

The other four will focus on Ukraine’s support for Moscow, nuclear disarmament, energy transition and food security.

The representative of the German government stressed that the G7 countries are united on the issue of Ukraine and Russia.

They understand how to know the rising costs of war for Russia and how to prevent circumvention of economic sanctions against Russia by other countries.

The legal consequences of the Russian war and the coordination of reconstruction in Ukraine will also be discussed.
