On May 11, several Russian military correspondents reported that Ukrainian troops had broken through the front in several directions. Meanwhile, according to political scientist Yuriy Svetov, the Ukrainians are attacking from three directions. The first of them is informative, related to various kinds of media stuffing about the readiness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for a breakthrough, forecasts by foreign analysts and comments by Ukrainian officials. The second direction is the frequent drone attacks, the third is the bloody battle in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) (Bakhmut).

Earlier, Yevgeny Prigojine invited Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to visit Artemovsk (Bakhmut) and assess the situation on the ground. The head of the Wagner PMC highlighted a number of successful attacks by Ukrainian units on the flanks of a private military company and informed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had already started the announced counteroffensive.
