Aluminum foil is essential in the kitchen for wrapping snacks, keeping drinks hot and protecting many other foods. But this highly moldable and versatile thin sheet has other uses around the home to help save you money and make your life easier.
That’s why you should take note of everything you can do with aluminum foil, because if you’re not a big fan of this wrap, you’ll find other good reasons that will convince you.
1. Polish your cutlery
The aluminum foil will help keep your cutlery looking like new. To do this, all you need is a saucepan, baking soda (your faithful ally in household chores), salt and a little water.

Step 1. After gathering everything you need, put a pan with a small amount of water on the heat and wrap the dull cutlery with pieces of aluminum foil Step 2. When the pan is hot, place it y the cutlery prepared. Step 3. Then add a teaspoon of salt and a little baking soda and wait for the water to boil. The electrolytes in the baking soda and salt react with the aluminum foil, creating an electrical voltage between the paper and the cutlery, which will eliminate the discoloration of the cutlery.Step 4: After a few minutes, drain the water and remove the covered, being careful not to burn yourself. Unroll the cutlery with extreme care: you will see how they shine! Awesome, right?
2. Clean the pan
A very simple but really effective trick is to use aluminum foil as a cleaning agent. Surely you have a typical frying pan with a blackened bottom. Take the aluminum foil, squeeze it until it forms a kind of sponge and rub it well on the bottom of the pan. This tip will also save you money by not buying unnecessary or less effective cleaners.

3. Repels birds and insects
If you have a cottage, deck, or balcony where birds can fly, aluminum foil will help keep out uninvited guests. In the same way that reflective tape confuses birds and insects, hanging strips of aluminum foil around your yard will help keep them away.
4. Create a cheap funnel
Don’t have a funnel you can gently pour liquids into, but don’t want to waste time/money buying one either? With some aluminum foil, you can make a kind of “cone” that does the same thing. Try it!
5. Sharpen your scissors
We all have or have had kitchen shears that don’t cut anything, but we’re sorry to get rid of them. You can use aluminum foil to sharpen them. To do this, you just need to cut a few strips of aluminum foil and fold them several times until the layer is thick enough. Then cut the resulting layer with scissors. With each cut you make, the scissors become a little sharper.
6. Save the bar soap
If you put a piece of aluminum foil in the bottom of the soap dish, it won’t dissolve as quickly in the water on contact with it and will last you longer!

7. Iron clothes faster
Are you in a hurry for an important event where you have to wear a very well-ironed shirt, but you don’t have much time to get rid of the creases? Don’t worry! Go to the kitchen and take the foil.
Since the latter reflects heat, cut a few pieces and place them under the cover you usually use for your ironing board. The aluminum foil will help distribute the heat evenly across the entire surface, which will greatly speed up the removal of creases.
8. Protect the edges of pies
If you’re worried about the edge of your cake browning too much, you can shield it with aluminum foil. You just need to cut a piece and fold it evenly. Wrap. You can remove it before the end of the cooking time, or fold it gently once you see that it is golden brown (so that it does not brown even more).
9. Clean your grill or barbecue

Everyone likes to barbecue with friends or family once in a while, but is cleaning the grill at the end really a tedious task? If you have aluminum foil handy, you can tightly cover the top of the grill with a layer or two of aluminum foil and heat the grill on full power for about half an hour with the lid tightly closed.
Then turn off the heat and open the lid. Carefully remove the aluminum foil with pliers or tweezers and wipe lightly with a cloth or sponge to remove any dirt. It will turn to ash, so it will be much easier for you to clean it!
10. Protect your credit card
If you are a cautious person and you fear that one day scammers will withdraw money from your contactless card, you can use aluminum foil and create your own protective case that will prevent this possibility. To do this, you just need to wrap it in this metal foil and you will avoid possible misfortunes.
11. Protect your clothes in the washing machine
Sometimes, after washing, our clothes look much worse than before immersion in the washing machine. Indeed, when we wash clothes in the washing machine, it emits a series of electrical charges that damage our clothes. Make balls of aluminum foil and throw them in the drum of the washing machine to avoid damaging your clothes. Small balls of aluminum foil absorb the electrical charge generated during washing and prevent damage to clothes.
12. Tame your hair
Does the head look like a ripe dandelion, due to the fact that the hair is fluffy? If you pass a piece of aluminum foil strand by strand, from root to tip, you will see that your hair has regained control.
13. Soften the sugar
Sugar can harden and stick if left out for a long time. If this is your case, cut out a piece, wrap it in aluminum foil and bake at 150°C for five minutes. When you cool it down, you will get the consistency of powder again, which it should be!
14. Clean your jewelry
If your silver jewelry is tarnished or dirty, you can line a small bowl with aluminum foil and then fill it with hot water. Next, add a tablespoon of laundry detergent (without bleach) and put dirty, dull jewelry in it. The washing powder can be replaced by a tablespoon of baking soda. Let the jewelry soak in our solution for 15 minutes then enjoy the result!
