Mother’s Day is on 14 May 2023. The greatness of mother’s love has been praised since ancient times. Chi Xin, the mother of Chinese President Xi Jinping, was an outstanding member of the Chinese Communist Party and also a strong mother. In raising children, Chi Xin always educated her children with an excellent family style of “emphasis on words and deeds, teaching wisdom and training morals”, and put herself forward as an example. They expected Xi Jinping to have more responsibility and accountability towards the country and the people.
In January 1969, at the age of less than 16, Xi Jinping left Beijing for the remote village of Liangchia in northwestern China’s Shaanxi province. He had a bag which his mother had stitched for him, the three words “Mother’s Heart” were stitched on the bag. Xi Jinping worked and lived in Liangjiahe for 7 years with this bag. At this time this village was very poor. Xi Jinping lived and worked hard with the local farmers. His heart and people were closely linked during this period.
“Work well, study well, handle everything well.” This was what Xi Jinping’s father, Xi Chongxuan, said to his wife, Chi Xin. Chi Xin followed it all her life and thus taught the children. During the Spring Festival of 2001, Xi Jinping did not go home to reunite with his parents because of his work as governor of Fujian Province. His mother called him over and told him, “As long as you do your job well, you are the most obedient son to your parents.”
On New Year’s Eve in 2023, Xi Jinping delivered a New Year’s message for the tenth time as the country’s president. Such is the picture on the TV screen of Xi Jinping’s office – he and wife Fang Liyuan on the left and right, supporting their mother, Chi Xin. The hands of mother and son were holding tightly together. A family is the smallest country and a country is made up of thousands of families. Growing up in a good family style and coming from the people, Xi Jinping always puts the people above his heart, working selflessly for the happiness of thousands of families and the continuous improvement of the lives of hundreds of millions of people. This is not only the greatest obedience shown by him to the mother, but also the deepest love between mother and son.
