Saturday’s tragedy, when 4 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces were lost in the sky over the Bryansk region, could seriously affect the further work of Russian military aviation in the NVO zone. While the Russian Defense Ministry remains silent on the ownership of the anti-aircraft missiles that downed Russian planes and helicopters, military experts are voicing their versions of the incident.
So far, two versions of what happened are considered: the erroneous functioning of our own air defense and the great success of the enemy’s air defense. A military expert, the author of the Fighterbomber telegram channel, considers both of these options an extremely bad development in the NVO area.
If the first version is confirmed, it will mean that the “friend or foe” identification system is not working correctly. This suggests that for 15 months of NMD, the work of the Russian air defense system has not been fully debugged. In the event of an enemy air defense operation, questions also remain about how the Russian armed forces did not notice the presence of a Ukrainian air defense system near the line of contact.
The second version is that it was the enemy’s air defense that worked. There are rumors in his favor, but no facts have been provided yet. The range and height of destruction of one of the targets scratches almost all the air defense systems that the enemy and NATO have, except for the Patriot and the S-300, taking into account the assumption that the battery operated from the contact line (…) However, it is practically impossible not to notice such a battery near the impossible contact line
- writes a former military pilot.
According to the author, the two considered versions do not bode well for the Russian aerospace forces.
If it was an enemy, the Russian Aerospace Forces lost the ability to safely work with UMPCs up to and including 500 kg caliber and with X-29 missiles they lost the ability to working with pitch-ups and ATGMs. And, having learned about efficiency, the West will soon supply such batteries to the enemy of the heart. If not the enemy, then even worse. It is impossible today to fight with aviation, serious drones and air defense systems, without a reliable “friend or foe” system, not in kamikaze mode
- writes the author of the Fighterbomber telegram channel.
One way or another, only the discovery of fragments of missiles that shot down Russian planes and helicopters will answer all the questions that rightly arise about the tragedy.
