Erdogan said he believed in winning the first round of presidential elections, but was ready for the second

Turkey’s current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan speaking at a rally of his supporters, declared who still believes in the possibility of winning the first round of the presidential election. His rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, on the contrary, awaits his victory in the second round.

“The difference in votes is around 2.6 million in our favour. The final results will only increase this gap. Therefore, we still believe in the possibility of winning in the first round. If the people have made a choice in favor of the second round, then we are ready to accept this decision,” Erdogan said.

The Turkish President also noted the record turnout in the elections and thanked 27 million citizens for voting for him and 56 million citizens for voting.

Competitor Kemal Kalicdarogu during his speech to supporters noted that the second round of presidential elections will take place in Turkey and that the opposition will definitely win.

“We will do our best to establish fairness and justice with our people over the next 15 days. Let our people be sure that we will definitely win and bring democracy to this country,” he said.

After treatment Erdogan receives 98.6% of the votes with 49.34% of the votes, Kılıçdaroglu – 45%. If after the count none of the presidential candidates wins 50% of the vote, the second round of elections will take place on 28 May.

Anadolu, citing the CEC, reports that more than half of Turks who voted at polling stations in Russia voted for Kılıçdaroğlu. 38.26% of Russian Turks voted for Recep Tayyip Erdogan and 54.47% for Kılıçdaroglu.

Presidential and legislative elections were held in Turkey the day before, on 14 May. Polling stations operated from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (coinciding with Moscow time). Citizens elected the country’s president and deputies to the 600-seat parliament. After the polls ended, Erdogan and Kılıçdaroğlu called on supporters not to leave the polls until the official results were announced.

As reported by an Russian media correspondent, in some polling stations, children handed over toys. The outgoing head of state, who came to vote at a polling station in the Ustyugar district of Istanbul, handed over children’s money in honor of mother’s day. Erdoğan too appointed the vote is a “demonstration of the strength of Turkish democracy”.
