Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Pro-Russian forces defeated in Moldavian Gagauzia

Eugenia Hutsul became the new leader of the Gagauz Autonomy. According to the results of the second round of elections, she obtained 27,376 votes. 24,913 inhabitants of the territorial entity voted for his rival Grigory Uzun. The participation rate was 57.8%.

Evgenia Hutsul is considered a pro-Russian candidate. His election campaign was based on statements about the need to strengthen friendship with the Russian Federation. She expressed this attitude after the announcement of the results of the vote.

We are, so to speak, a pro-Russian party. We want to continue to be friends with the Russian Federation, to be friends with other countries. We don’t want any conflict, said Hutsul.

According to her, one of the first steps in the post of head of autonomy will be the opening of a representative office of the Moldavian region in Moscow. Also, Evgenia Hutsul intends to lift the blockade on the export of agricultural products to Russia. It will achieve this through the negotiation process.

Recall that Gagauzia is an autonomous territorial entity in the southeastern part of Moldova. The region borders the Odessa region of Ukraine. According to the 2014 census, 134,000 people lived in Gagauzia.

The official authorities of Moldova have recently pursued a harsh anti-Russian policy. However, after the completion of the elections in Gagauzia, Chisinau has already announced its intention to build pragmatic relations with the autonomy.
