Biologist Shashina explained whether new types of ticks found in the Russian Federation are dangerous for humans

New types of ticks discovered in Russia by the Tyumen Medical University are not dangerous to humans. This was told by biologist Natalia Shashina for Moscow Region Today .

Russian scientists have described three species of previously unknown ticks that live on bats. The results of the study, published in the Persian Journal of Acarology, confirm that the found insects can carry plague and fever.

According to Shashina, this fact does not allow us to say that the number of tick bites will increase, and even more so there will be outbreaks of the listed diseases.

“In order for a tick to be a carrier, the pathogen must multiply well in it, so that it attacks a person, so that it enters the circulation of a natural focus. There is no evidence that ticks found in bats attack people, ”the doctor said.

New types of ticks should not be feared. Scientists have not yet found information about their danger to humans.
