Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov explained the decision to return Andrei Rublev’s “Trinity” icon to the Russian Orthodox Church with humanitarian considerations.
The representative of the Kremlin noted that for a large number of believers in Russia, this icon is a great shrine.
“Hiding it in the museum funds, of course, does not quite correspond to the aspirations of our believers,” he said, answering the corresponding question of journalists.
Peskov stressed that such decisions are not made in a coordinated fashion.
Recall that the former Russian leader Vladimir Putin decided to transfer Andrei Rublev’s masterpiece to the Russian Orthodox Church. It is assumed that the icon will be in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for a year, then it will be transported to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
