S. Jaishankar met PM Alexander of Belgium, discussed strategic issues

London: Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met Prime Minister of Belgium Alexandre de Crew and discussed with him the enhancement of bilateral cooperation including trade and technology and contemporary strategic issues. Jaishankar reached Brussels on Monday evening on the last leg of his three-nation tour to Bangladesh, Sweden and Belgium. Jaishankar said he personally congratulated D’Crew on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the meeting. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Skill Development and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar were also present in the meeting.

Jaishankar is in Brussels for the first meeting of the India-European Union (EU) Trade and Technology Council to be held on Tuesday. The External Affairs Minister wrote on Twitter, ‘Delighted to meet with my colleagues Piyush Goyal and Rajiv Chandrasekhar, Prime Minister of Belgium Alexandre de Crew today. After the meeting, Jaishankar tweeted, “Thank you EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for the meeting with the Indian team of ministers. Appreciate open discussions on business, technology and geopolitics. Looking forward to the India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting.” The first ministerial meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) will be held in Brussels on Tuesday.

The TTC was launched by him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the visit of the President of the European Commission to India in April last year. Jaishankar arrived in Belgium after a three-day visit to Sweden, where he participated in several high-level discussions, including the India Trilateral Forum in Stockholm and the European Union Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum (EIPMF).
