Wall Street quietly rises on hopes of debt ceiling deal

Markets are awaiting a meeting between US President Joe Biden and several members of Congress on Tuesday to reach an agreement on raising the debt ceiling before the start of next June.

The US president expressed optimism that a deal could be reached to raise the debt ceiling and avoid default, and confirmed he had received an update on the progress of talks between officials administration and their congressional counterparts.

He added, “I’m always optimistic because I’m optimistic,” and expressed his belief that there is a desire on both sides to reach an agreement.

“I think we can get there,” he said.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index rose at the open by 20.59 points, or 0.06%, to 33,321.21 points, as well as the Standard & Poor’s 500 index by 2.57 points, or 0.06% , at 4126.65 points, and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 16.42 points. , or 0.13%, to 12,301.17 points.
