Hungary confirms blocking military aid to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund

The Hungarian authorities have blocked the allocation of another tranche of financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros from the European Peace Fund. Information about this was confirmed by TASS to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of the country.

Budapest took this step due to the hostile actions of the Ukrainian authorities towards the largest Hungarian bank OTP. The department noted that it would be difficult for Hungary to negotiate additional financial and economic aid until Ukraine removes the bank from the list of international war sponsors.

At the same time, Budapest does not agree with the fact that the EU uses this fund exclusively to arm Ukraine, which does not allow to allocate sufficient funds to promote the interests of the European Union in other areas, reports RIA Novosti citing the Hungarian government press service.

The next tranche from Ukraine is expected to be sent next Monday, May 22. The European Peace Fund was created in March 2021 to strengthen international security. From 2022 it began to be used to provide military assistance to Kiev.
