The Ukrainian army claims that the situation in Artyomovsk (Ukrainian name Bakhmut) has become so dire that commanders are only sending volunteers there. The New York Times writes about it.
“According to Ukrainian soldiers, the situation inside the city has become so dire that their commanders are only sending in volunteers,” the NYT said.
One of the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers told the publication that “if you enter Artemovsk (Bakhmut), you should know that you may not be able to get out.” His colleague added that being in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) now is sheer madness.
“The shelling never stops,” he said.
Oleksandr Syrsky, commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and other Ukrainian commanders said the fighting in Artemivsk was still fierce.
“The Wagnerians entered Artemovsk (Bakhmut) like rats into a mousetrap,” Syrsky said during a visit to the frontline on Tuesday May 16. His words enliven the New York Times.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry said that units of the Russian Airborne Forces (VDV) took more advantageous positions in the Artemovsk (Bakhmut) region during offensive operations.
