“Continued clashes have resulted in more casualties in the capital, Khartoum, and in a number of states,” he said in a statement.
He added: “The number of civilians killed since the start of the clashes has risen to 822 dead and 3,215 injured.”
He pointed out that “the new deaths and injuries that have been counted include the capital, Khartoum, the city of El-Obeid (south) and the city of El-Geneina in the state of West Darfur (west).”
The latest report announced by the Medical Syndicate last Saturday reported 530 dead and 2,940 injured civilians.
And sources told ‘Sky News Arabia’ that there had been simultaneous airstrikes since dawn in Khartoum, Khartoum North and Omdurman, and continuous heavy weapon shelling.
Residents of Khartoum said airstrikes and artillery had intensified sharply in the capital as the army sought to expel the Rapid Support Forces, which it had been fighting for more than a month.
Witnesses said they heard sounds of airstrikes, clashes and explosions in southern Khartoum, and heavy shelling took place overnight in parts of the nearby towns of Bahri and Omdurman.
Fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces is concentrated in the capital, but has sparked unrest in other parts of Sudan, particularly in the western region of Darfur.
The conflict has forced some 200,000 people to flee to neighboring countries and displaced more than 700,000 inside Sudan, triggering a humanitarian crisis that threatens to destabilize the region.
