Syrian Foreign Minister: Al-Assad will attend Arab summit in Jeddah

On Wednesday, a meeting of Arab foreign ministers kicked off in the Saudi city of Jeddah, in preparation for the Arab summit, to be held the day after tomorrow, Friday.

After announcing Syria’s restoration of its seat in the League of Arab States, League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit confirmed that the Syrian president can now participate in the Arab summit.

Aboul Gheit said on Sunday: “Syrian President Bashar al-Assad can participate in the League summit if he wishes.”

The League of Arab States suspended Syria’s membership in 2011 when war broke out there.

Recently, some Arab countries have resumed dealing with Syria through high-level visits and meetings.
