Russia has frozen the accounts of Finnish diplomatic missions in Moscow and St. Petersburg. On this subject writing Helsingin Sanomat newspaper with reference to the Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Finnish Foreign Ministry said the accounts cannot be used at this time. Finnish diplomats have turned to the Russian authorities to find out the circumstances. “The situation is serious,” the ministry said.
At the Embassy of Finland confirmed RBC that diplomatic mission accounts are frozen. “European Union sanctions are not directed against the embassies and consular offices of the Russian Federation,” the embassy added.
Finland has an embassy in Moscow and a consulate general in St. Petersburg in Russia.
In March, the edition of Talouselm reported that the Finnish Debt Collection Authority blocked the accounts of the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Nordea Bank.
In April, the Finnish authorities seized the RCSC building and the land on which its building stands. The decision was taken in the context of the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia for the military operation in Ukraine. Seven apartments in Helsinki linked to “those subject to EU restrictions” have also been arrested.
