Archaeological research in the Ivanovo region, located in the basins of the Yaselda, Pina and Neslukha rivers, has been carried out since the 1940s. The artifacts they found are kept in various museum institutions in the country, including the museum established ten years ago in the village of Motol, Ivanovo district. Today in the Ivanovo region a new stage of research is geological. It is necessary to clarify and refine the chronology of the beginning of the colonization of Western Polesia, says the leader of the expedition, a researcher at the Department of Archeology of the Primitive Society of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Vashanov:

  • This territory was covered by the Dnieper Glacier, which began to leave about 250,000 years ago. All subsequent glaciers – Sozhsky and Poozersky – did not reach here. It can be concluded that the age of the monument is at least 200,000 years. We worked here last year, now with the participation of Russian colleagues, we make geological sections, take samples, and after analysis, further excavations are planned in the future.
