The Iraqi government runs a food support program that includes the distribution of 4.6 million wheat per year.

Last year, Iraq bought a million tons of wheat to make up for the shortfall in production, which depends heavily on rain and the flow of water from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

In recent years, the Iraqi government has purchased wheat from three sources: the United States, Australia and Canada.
