Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The US President extends the state of national emergency related to the situation in Iraq

Agencies – Washington:

The day before yesterday, US President Joe Biden signed a decree extending the national emergency regarding the situation in Iraq.

Successive US presidents have already extended the state of emergency for about 20 times since 2003, after former President George W. Bush issued that year Resolution 13303 on Iraq.

The decree prohibits the export of some special goods, in addition to punishing individuals and entities that pose a threat to the national security and foreign policy of Iraq and the United States of America. A statement released by the White House said: “There are still obstacles to the orderly reconstruction of Iraq, the restoration and maintenance of peace and security in the country, and the development of political, administrative and economic institutions.” Pointing out that the obstacles to rebuilding Iraq and restoring peace and security in the country still exist, threatening the national security and foreign policy of the United States. He also called for an extension of the state of emergency in Yemen, which ends on the sixteenth of May, without referring to the Houthi group. Biden said that the actions and policies of some former members of the Yemeni government, and “others”, still threaten security, peace and stability in Yemen, which constitutes An extraordinary threat to US national security and US foreign policy.

The new extension came on the eve of statements by the US ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski, that “the Iraqis do not want a state controlled by militias, and that the United States will not leave the region.”

She pointed out the strategic importance of Iraq for the United States of America.
