Kiev. In Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, a loud sound of explosions was heard in the early hours of Thursday. The city’s military administration said debris from the explosion started a fire in a non-residential building.
The administration said the damage caused by the attacks by Russia was not immediately clear, nor was there any immediate information on the number of casualties. Russia has targeted the Ukrainian capital for the ninth time this month. Strategic bombers in the Caspian region probably carried out these attacks with cruise missiles. Russian reconnaissance planes also flew over the Ukrainian capital after the attacks.
Serhiy Popko, head of Kiev’s military administration, said in a telegram post that according to preliminary information, all enemy missiles were destroyed after the strikes. Popko said debris from the blasts fell in two districts and a garage complex. A fire broke out, which was quickly brought under control. He said that there is no information about the number of casualties in the blasts at the moment.
Ukraine’s air defense system, bolstered by state-of-the-art weaponry provided by Western countries, shot down all of its missiles earlier this week, repelling a massive Russian air raid on Kiev, officials said. Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Inhat said Soviet-era X-101 and X-55 cruise missiles were likely used for Thursday’s attacks.
