In details, most of the world’s population is experiencing an unprecedented technological revolution, with the spread of social media platforms and the proximity of the world’s countries to each other, but 720 million people are still not connected to Internet, especially in the lesser developed countries, which represent 27% of the world’s population.
The data from the United Nations report also showed disappointing figures regarding the digital divide, and they did not differ much from the statistics of previous years.
Only 36% of people in developing countries use the internet, compared to 66% of the rest of the world’s population who take advantage of 4G networks.
The United Nations report finds a big lag in attempts to bridge the digital divide between the least developed countries, while the rest of the world is accelerating in harnessing the benefits of the internet to launch development projects.
In this regard, regional digital marketing expert and member of the Chamber of Information and Communication Technology Industry, Engineer Ahmed Sabry said in his interview with “Sky News Arabia”:
Communication is the artery of technology in the world. The more communication channels there are, the greater the development. The use of social media platforms by the population of the African continent does not exceed 16%. The development of the Internet is distance school and education, it is also distance health, e-commerce and other technical developments. The problems of all developing countries can be solved if a very advanced communication infrastructure is available.
